BANGKOK: The Thai media has drawn its battlelines against Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra over the government's plan to introduce a bill to set up a council to monitor broadcast journalists.
Three journalist groups the Thai Journalists Association, Thai Broadcast Association and Business Reporters Association have condemned the proposed law as a step to subvert press freedom. If passed, the bill would enable the council to introduce a code of ethics and punish broadcast journalists who violate the rules.
