BEIJING: China is interested in doing what it can to persuade North Korea to give up its suspected nuclear weapons programme but prefers to play its role quietly, US Secretary of State Colin Powell said yesterday.
Powell did not say exactly what Beijing might do to influence Pyongyang but he said it was well aware of US views on the subject, he told reporters.
