YANGON: Myanmar pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi was sentenced yesterday to a week in jail or a 500 kyat (RM315) fine over a domestic dispute which her party said was being used by the ruling junta as a political weapon.
Aung Shwe, the chairman of Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD), said the opposition leader and Nobel peace laureate had refused to accept the sentence handed down by a township court in the area here where she lives.
