JAKARTA: An Indonesian court acquitted a Muslim cleric yesterday of charges he incited hatred in the strife-torn Moluccas islands, a decision some saw as a setback for Jakarta's attempts to tackle militancy and communal violence.
Jafar Umar Thalib was accused of inciting hatred against the government in a speech he made last year in the Moluccas. Part of that speech was directed at a tiny Christian separatist group.
