Manila starts anti-graft war

MANILA: President Gloria Arroyo ordered “lifestyle checks” on Philippine public officials yesterday as she launched a US$60mil (RM228mil) anti-corruption campaign targeting electoral fraud and smuggling. 

Independent estimates suggest at least one-fifth of the Philippines’ national budget is lost to graft.
