HANOI: Laos will celebrate today, for the first time since the ruling Communist regime overthrew the country's monarchy in 1975, the founding of the kingdom of Lane Xang, forerunner of the modern state, an official said.
A statue of King Fa Ngum, the first ruler to have established a Laotian state, will be erected in the capital Vientiane and there will be traditional and religious processions which marks the 650th anniversary of the foundation of the kingdom.
