MANILA: Filipinos were yesterday called to rally behind President Gloria Arroyo following her surprise announcement that she will not seek a second term in the 2004 elections.
Arroyo's announcement, carried on national television on Monday, was widely praised by the Philippine press, who called on her critics to allow her to finish her job unhampered by intrigue and politicking.
