Steamboat chain manager charged with CBT involving RM1.5mil

KUALA LUMPUR: A company manager of a popular steamboat chain restaurant has appeared at the Sessions Court here to face a charge of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM1.5mil.

Yong Pitt Lok, 48, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out before Sessions Court judge Azrul Darus here on Thursday (May 21).

According to the charge sheet, the accused, in his capacity as the company manager entrusted with the monies, allegedly committed CBT by transferring RM1,468,958.29 to his own bank account for his own benefit.

Yong was charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code and faces imprisonment of between two and 20 years, whipping, and a fine if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Zul Hilmi Latif offered bail at RM120,000 in one surety.

Yong's lawyer, Lee Keng Fatt, however, asked for a lower bail amount, as his client has to support his three children, his wife, and his elderly mother.

"He has given his cooperation to the police during the investigation. He was neither arrested nor remanded, but the police took his statement three times.

"When he was told that he would be charged, he still appeared before the court. He is not a flight risk," Lee said.

Judge Azrul then fixed bail at RM50,000 in one surety.

The case is set for mention on June 29.
