Three arrested in Cameron Highlands cable theft attempt


IPOH: The police have arrested three men and seized drugs and stolen cables near Jalan Kelab Golf in Cameron Highlands.

Cameron Highlands OCPD Superintendent Azri Ramli said the three men, aged 41 to 46, were arrested while attempting to steal telecommunications cable at about 3.40am on Saturday (May 16).

Supt Azri said one suspect was trying to remove the cables while two others were standing behind a car.

"The police saw the individuals behaving suspiciously and proceeded to inspect them.

"We found equipment used to steal cables and a glass tube containing drugs, believed to be 2.87g of syabu," he said in a statement.

Supt Azri said all three men tested positive for methamphetamine.

"All have been arrested, and we have also seized the items.

"The case will be investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Section 12(2), and Section 15(1)(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act," he said, adding that all three also have previous criminal cases.

"The public has been advised to be vigilant and not share unverified information.

"Any information could be forwarded to the district police station control centre at 05-491 5999 or the nearest police stations," he added.
