Shop helper fined RM3,800 for having unlicensed air rifle


TUMPAT: A shop assistant has been fined RM3,800 by the Magistrate's Court here after pleading guilty to possessing an unlicensed air rifle used to shoot wild animals and birds.

On Wednesday (May 13), Magistrate Wan Ashrul Afham Mohamad Azmi also ordered Muhammad Syahmi Mat Ghoni, 24, to serve nine months' jail in default.

According to the charge, Syahmi was found in possession of the air rifle without a valid permit or licence during a police inspection at Kampung Nechang at about 4.30am on May 6.

The offence under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 carries a maximum jail term of seven years, or a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.

Syahmi paid the fine. – Bernama
