JOHOR BARU: Sons are stepping up for Mothers Day by buying flowers and special gifts for their mothers.
“Previously, most of our customers for Mothers Day were women,” said florist Yuki Liew.
But she has noticed an increase in bouquet orders from male customers.
“Since last year, I’ve seen more sons placing orders too, which is a positive sign as it shows they are becoming more open in expressing their love and appreciation for their mothers through flowers.”
Liew, 31, said male customers generally preferred simpler bouquet designs and often opted for conventional colours such as pink and red.
“They usually have simpler tastes and fewer specific requests.
“Women customers tend to be more detail-oriented. They may request specific flowers, ribbon colours or even the type of wrapping material used for the bouquet.” .
She said cash bouquets are among this year’s bestsellers, with creative designs featuring folded banknotes shaped into butterflies or arranged to resemble a skirt.
“These bouquets usually range from RM50 to a few hundred ringgit, which is still much lower than Valentine’s Day cash bouquets that can go up to thousands of ringgit.
“I think that is because mothers usually display the bouquets at home rather than use the money.”
Liew said she has also received orders from overseas customers in countries such as Canada, Taiwan and China, who are buying bouquets for mothers, aunts and sisters living in Johor.
Home-based baker Fatin Amirah Mohamad, 33, said demand for personalised Mothers Day gifts has grown this year.
While her customer base is mostly women, she said men have also been placing orders for special gifts to mark Mothers Day.
“Orders began coming in earlier this week, with customers gravitating towards affordable gift bundles.
“My male customers tend to keep things straightforward. They usually just want the gifts to look pretty without being fussy about the details,” she said.
Fatin found that the response this year was much better compared to the last few years, with many choosing her RM50 promotion package that includes a single bouquet and a cake.
These bouquets, she said, usually feature roses or daisies paired with baby’s breath.
Fatin Amirah said that most of her customers are located within a 40km radius of Johor Baru, including those from Pasir Gudang, Forest City, Kulai and Kota Tinggi.
She has also received a handful of orders from Singaporeans who arrange for pickups or deliveries when they are in Johor.
