Selangor Ruler cites Truman quote in warning against corrupt politicians

PETALING JAYA: Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah cited the words of a former United States president to warn politicians against enriching themselves while in power.

In a post on the Selangor Royal Office social media account on Wednesday (May 6), Sultan Sharafuddin said he had read a quote by the 33rd American president, Harry S. Truman, and wanted to share it with the public.

His Royal Highness then shared a photo of the quote saying “no man can get rich through politics unless he is a crook”.

Translating the quote into Malay, the Sultan then said he wished to share a quote to add to what Truman had said.

"If the richest group in a society consists of politicians, then that society is fundamentally corrupt.

"This is a reflection for all of us. Hopefully it is useful," he said.
