Two including former Kelantan striker charged with abducting goldsmith

PETALING JAYA: A former Kelantan football player and another were charged at the Pasir Mas Sessions Court on Sunday (April 12) with abducting a goldsmith in Kampung Palekbang last year.

Cik Hisammudin Hassan, 51, and Saufi Ariffin, 24, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before Judge Zulkpli Abdullah.

Previously, it was reported that Kelantan police were tracking four men believed to be involved in the abduction of a 44-year-old male gold shop owner in Palekbang, Tumpat on May 20, last year.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat had stated that all suspects were believed to be hiding within the state and that efforts to track them had been intensified.

Both accused were alleged to have forcibly abducted Marzuki Mustapha, 44, with the intention of wrongfully confining him at about 7.20am by a roadside.

The charge was framed under Section 365 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code.

It carries a jail term of up to seven years and a fine upon conviction.

DPP Siti Aiysha Na’ilah Harizan proposed bail of RM20,000 for each accused, citing the seriousness of the offence.

The defence requested a lower amount, and the court subsequently allowed bail at RM12,000 each.

One accused was represented by a lawyer while the other was unrepresented.

The court set May 18 for case mention.
