Masked men tie up guard and steal two Social Welfare Dept vehicles in Kelantan

PETALING JAYA: A security guard in Tanah Merah was tied up by masked men who made off with two Social Welfare Department vehicles early Sunday (Apr 12).

The incident occurred at the Social Welfare Department office in Kelewek, Kelantan, at about 4.30am.

The guard on duty was confronted and threatened with a weapon before his hands and feet were bound.

According to reports, the incident came to light after a People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) personnel from a nearby community college was approached by the guard who sought help while still tied up.

The personnel then alerted the district control centre and the Tanah Merah police.

Initial investigations found that between four and five suspects, all wearing masks and black gloves, were involved in the robbery.

The victim is believed to have been threatened with a knife before the suspects tied him up.

The suspects fled the scene with two department vehicles, a grey Mitsubishi Triton and a black Toyota Fortuner.

They also took the victim’s wallet containing about RM300 in cash, a mobile phone and a motorcycle key.

Kelantan Social Welfare Department director Che Samsuzuki Che Noh confirmed that a police report had been lodged.

He said the department would leave the matter to the police for further investigation while also conducting its own internal probe.
