TEHERAN: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Malaysian counterpart, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, held a telephone conversation on Tuesday to discuss bilateral ties and the latest developments in the conflict, Mehr News Agency reported.
During the phone call, the two exchanged views on bilateral relations and the latest developments in the conflict, especially the economic consequences.
Araghchi briefed his Malaysian counterpart on the attacks by the United States and Israel against the innocent people of the country, particularly attacks on schools, hospitals and residential areas, emphasising the country’s determination to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity firmly.
Iran will defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity with utmost power and strength, Araghchi said, Bernama reported.
Iran is committed to maintaining friendly relations with all countries in the region based on good neighbourliness.
However, the use of military bases and facilities in regional countries by the United States and Israel to attack Iran has left it with no choice but to resort to defensive measures within the framework of its inherent right of self-defence, Iran’s top diplomat added.
In his remarks, Araghchi referred to the consequences of the military aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime on the economy, security and stability of the region, as well as maritime safety in the Strait of Hormuz.
He emphasised that the insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz is a direct result of the military aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime, and that Iran has adopted a series of measures within the framework of international law to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
