KUALA TERENGGANU: Nurul Hafizah Shaary, 39, who was killed with two of her children in a road accident, had hosted a birthday bash for her youngest child the night before.
Her nephew, Mohd Tarmizi Said, 42, said Nurul Hafizah held a birthday party on Sunday night for Nur Radya Athalia Mohamad Redzuan, four, who also perished in the accident.
He said his aunt appeared happy and cheerful, as relatives from near and far gathered.
“We have been close since childhood as we grew up together. She was also the one who kept encouraging me throughout my police training.
“She was cheerful as always that night. Nur Radya shares the same birthday as me, so we celebrated together,” the police officer said when met at the Forensic Department of Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah near here yesterday, Bernama reported.
Mohd Tarmizi said Nurul Hafizah’s husband, Mohamad Redzuan, 40, an ambulance driver, was still in shock and struggling to cope with the tragic loss of his wife and two children.
He said Mohamad Redzuan’s two other children, Nur Raesha Amanda, 14, and Nur Rakhis Aral Yn, nine, were receiving treatment at Hospital Dungun.
“He had just arrived home in Ajil from Dungun when we heard the news. At about 6pm (on Monday), he called me and I rushed to Jerangau Health Clinic to see their youngest child, who was badly injured. I held her, and she died in my arms.”
Mohd Tarmizi said Nur Rakhis was in stable condition and expected to be discharged, while Nur Raesha would be transferred to Hospital Kemaman for surgery on her broken thigh.
He said the remains of the victims, including that of another child Muhammad Redzuan Arash, 13, underwent a post-mortem before burial at the Sungai Tong Muslim Cemetery in Setiu.
It was reported that three family members died when their SUV crashed at KM59 of Jalan Jerangau-Jabor near Felda Jerangau in Dungun.
Nurul Hafizah and Muhammad Redzuan Arash died at the scene while Nur Radhya succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment.
