JOHOR BARU: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has praised Johor for its continuous endeavour to upgrade heritage assets and strengthen the state’s tourism attractions.
The Prime Minister said the efforts aligned with the aims of the Visit Johor 2026 (TMJ2026) campaign.
“These efforts also support the national agenda in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign in spurring the local economy, besides preserving the nation’s identity and history,” he said in a Facebook post, Bernama reported.
Johor is targeting the arrival of 12 million tourists this year to mark TMJ2026, with revenue expected to exceed RM42bil for the state.
Earlier, Anwar and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, visited the Royal Abu Bakar Museum housed at the Grand Palace of Johor.
The museum is a royal treasure trove, showcasing the historical and cultural heritage of the Sultanate of Johor, in addition to the well-preserved and attractive landscape.
Anwar arrived in Johor Baru on Sunday onboard the Electric Train Service 3 (ETS3) from the federal capital with his family members and also visited the Johor Zoo.
He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to spend two days enjoying a leisurely visit to Johor, where he could immerse himself in the rich historical and cultural heritage of the southern state.
The Prime Minister and his family arrived at JB Sentral, with Anwar taking time to chat with visitors and workers at the terminal.
He engaged with visitors at the Johor Zoo and received updates on the zoo’s recent advancements.
Anwar expressed hope that the Johor Zoo would continue to be strengthened as a recreational, educational and heritage asset.
