‘The Voice of Hind Rajab’ gets public support

THE film The Voice of Hind Rajab continues to receive an enthusiastic response from Malaysians, recording 53,000 viewers after 17 days of screening since its release on Jan 8, Berita Harian reported.

Humanitarian activist and campaign spokesperson for the film Zainal Rashid Ahmad said the achievement proved that the film was able to convey the message of the Palestinian struggle to people from all walks of life.

“We hope ticket sales this week will surpass 60,000 and if cinemas continue to have confidence in the support of Malaysians, it will not be impossible for us to reach 80,000 viewers,” said Zainal.

He stressed that the target was not aimed purely at profit, but rather serves as a benchmark for the level of public support for the advocacy and awareness efforts conveyed through the cinema medium.

“Malaysia is among the first 21 countries to screen the film,” he said, adding that it has been screened in 44 countries so far, including Hong Kong, South Korea, Thailand and the United States.

> A single mother is bravely caring for her mentally disabled elder sister in an ancestral house on the verge of collapse in Kampung Bukit Abal in Kelantan, Kosmo! reported.

Aminah Abdul Rahim, 56, lives with her sister Rahimah, 68, in darkness after their electricity was cut off two months ago due to faulty wiring.

“We use candles at night. Every time it rains, we have to collect water and often get soaked because most of the roof is leaking and the floor has started to rot,” said Aminah.

An application for house repair assistance has been submitted, but no action has been taken so far.

Rahimah receives RM600 in monthly financial support from the Welfare Department, while Aminah receives RM250.

“The amount is only enough for our basic needs and daily food, but we cannot afford to repair the house,” Aminah said.
