Robbers pose as Immigration officers


BUKIT MERTAJAM: A group of men dressed as Immigration officers entered a Myanmar national’s home in Bukit Tengah here, brandished a machete and fled with various items.

Central Seberang Perai OCPD Asst Comm Helmi Aris said the six suspects, wearing face masks, arrived in a car at the 44-year-old victim’s house at the Chip Joo Estate at about 10.30am on Jan 13.

“The suspects entered the complainant’s house after introducing themselves as Immigration offi­cers and searched the house while brandishing a machete and fleeing with jewellery, cash and handphones totalling about RM4,000,” he said in a statement.

Acting on the victim’s report, a district Criminal Investigation Department team raided two locations in Kuala Lumpur on Jan 18 where two suspects, aged 38 and 32, were picked up.

The case is investigated under Section 395/397 for robbery.

The suspects will be charged at the Butterworth Sessions Court today. Police are still looking for the remaining gang members.
