Backing for PM’s proposal for youth panels in mosques

KUALA LUMPUR: The Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) has expressed full support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s proposal to provide youth with space to plan and implement programmes in mosques.

Minister Dr Zulkifli Hasan (pic) said the proposal would be reviewed in collaboration with the Islamic Development Department, the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council, and the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department.

In a statement, Zulkifli said the initiative would strengthen mosques as centres for the development of the ummah and the moral growth of the younger generation, Bernama reported.

“Mosques play an important role in educating the ummah and nurturing character, following the example of Prophet Muhammad SAW through Masjid Nabawi, and should be reinforced as welcoming spaces for young people,” he said.

Zulkifli added that his department has carried out various initiatives, including the Kariah Madani Programme and Kuliah Zuhur, conducted by young asatizah (teachers) at the Parliament surau.

Youth involvement will also be expanded through the Himpunan Asatizah Muda Kebangsaan this February, which will bring together over 1,000 young asatizah to empower the development of the ummah and share impactful knowledge.

On Saturday, the Prime Minister proposed that every mosque establishes a dedicated youth committee to provide young people with space to plan and implement community and religious programmes.
