KAJANG: A “First Thousand Days of Children” project will be introduced in Selangor to better prepare children for early entry into the school system, says Anfaal Saari.
The Selangor state women’s development and social welfare committee chairman said the project will begin this June and be implemented through the Selangor Women’s Career Carnival Tour Series in Hulu Selangor, Kuala Selangor, Sepang, Gombak and Petaling.
“Parents are responsible for ensuring a healthy environment, adequate nutrition and appropriate exposure for their children before they enter school,” she told reporters after launching the Selangor Women’s Leadership Academy involving state local council members yesterday.
She emphasised that parents play a crucial role in a child’s early development, especially during the first six years, through proper nutrition, healthcare and a nurturing environment.
Last Tuesday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced during the launch of the National Education Blueprint (RPN) 2026–2035 that, beginning in 2027, six-year-old children may be allowed to enter Year One.
The move, however, will not be mandatory and will be subject to parental consent.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has clarified that the early entry policy will be implemented flexibly and will only apply to children and parents who are ready.
On a separate issue, Anfaal said the state social welfare department will investigate the alleged death of a baby at a Bangi nursery about three years ago, following the circulation of a video by the victim’s mother on social media.
She said that investigations would be carried out by officers from the department’s Hulu Langat office.
