Over 50 drums of hydrochloric acid go up in flames at suspected illegal dumpsite


SHAH ALAM: More than 50 drums of hydrochloric acid are estimated to have caught fire along with rubbish at a suspected illegal dumpsite in Jalan Ijok, Batu 23, Kampung Sentosa, Kuala Selangor near here, Saturday (Jan 24).

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said his department received a call regarding the incident at 2.08pm before mobilising 14 officers and personnel from the Rawang Fire and Rescue Station, Bestari Jaya Fire Station, and Selayang Fire Station

He said the Hazardous Materials Team (Hazmat) from the Rawang Fire and Rescue Station was also mobilised to the scene.

"According to initial information, the fire involved a (pile) of garbage measuring approximately 150x50 square feet.

"The fire also involved more than 50 drums (each with a capacity of 200l) of hydrochloric acid," he said in a statement Saturday, adding that efforts to extinguish the blaze are currently underway. - Bernama
