20 motorcycles destroyed in Perak house fire


PARIT BUNTAR: About 20 motorcycles were destroyed in a fire at a house used as a motorcycle storage facility in Lorong Parit 1 Titi Serong, Kampung Kedah, on Monday (Jan 19).

Acting Assistant Director of the Perak Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Division, Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah, said the department received an emergency call about the incident at 1.50am, according to Sinar Harian.

He said a fire engine from the Parit Buntar Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 2.05am.

“The fire involved a Class B house measuring approximately 20 by 70 feet, which was used as a storage space for motorcycles and motorcycle equipment, and it was 70% destroyed by fire.

“Also affected was a car, which was about 5% burnt, while 20 motorcycles consisting of new, old and customer-owned units were almost 90% destroyed by fire,” he said in a statement on Monday.

Shazlean said there were no casualties.

According to him, the extinguishing operation was also assisted by members of the Bagan Serai, Bagan Tiang and Kuala Kurau Volunteer Fire Departments.

He said the fire was fully under control at 2.50am, and the operation ended at 5.50am.
