Woman killed in hit-and-run accident on Jalan Sentul, cops seeking witnesses


KUALA LUMPUR: An elderly woman has been killed after she was hit by a vehicle when crossing the road on Jalan Sentul near the market here.

Kuala Lumpur traffic investigation and enforcement department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the incident occurred at about 9.30am on Tuesday (Jan 13).

He said the victim, a 69-year-old woman was crossing the road at a location not designated as a pedestrian crossing when she was struck by the vehicle.

"The vehicle, which has yet to be identified, was on the second lane from the left heading towards the city centre.

"The victim sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

ACP Mohd Zamzuri said police are searching for the vehicle and driver involved, including reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and speaking to witnesses.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He also urged any witnesses to contact the Tun HS Lee police station at 03-2071 9999 or the nearest police station.
