Govt to introduce Muslim NGO training module

PUTRAJAYA: The government will introduce a special management training module to strengthen governance and financial management among Muslim NGOs.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan (pic), who disclosed this, said the move was crucial to address gaps in knowledge and management skills which have contributed to allegations of misconduct, including corruption and embezzlement, involving some Muslim NGOs.

“We have discussed the development of a comprehensive and holistic module to assist Muslim NGOs in strengthening their capabilities in management, finance, administration and governance.

“We view this as an urgent need, as these organisations carry significant responsibilities and public trust,” he told reporters after delivering his New Year message to ministry staff members here yesterday, Bernama reported.

In his address, Zulkifli said the government would not introduce new plans in the management of Islamic religious affairs, but would instead continue implementing existing policies and initiatives, with the necessary adjustments and improvements.

He said the approach was aimed at ensuring policy continuity and avoiding frequent changes whenever there was a change in leadership.

“We will continue what is good and make the necessary adjustments, refinements and improvements to existing plans,” he said, adding that a retreat session would be held to redraft the documents.
