CHINA’S “King of Shoes” Wang Hai has severed ties with his son Wang Jun after a family feud over the control of their footwear manufacturing company turned ugly.
Sin Chew Daily reported that the 84-year-old Wang Hai issued an open letter last Saturday saying that he and his son had ended their relationship due to irreconcilable differences.
“Wang Jun claimed that he was oppressed by me for 20 years, had deep grudges against me and wants me to die. Now I would no longer oppress him as I have decided to end our father-and-son relationship,” he said.
The elder Wang claimed that after taking over the company Double Star & Mingren, which was founded in 1921, his son hosted a celebration banquet and told guests that his ascension was to “liberate Taiwan”.
“Both Wang Jun and his wife Xu Ying are now American citizens but Double Star & Mingren is a Chinese national brand. It must not be passed down to an American,” he said.
The power struggle in the company has been ongoing for about a year after Wang Hai claimed that Wang Jun, Xu and their son Wang Zidong seized his post by “forging” the company seals.
In 2022, Xu became the largest shareholder of Double Star & Mingren with 56.96% shares through the Qingdao Xing Mai Da company where she held 80% shares.
Last month, Xu announced that her father-in-law Wang Hai had been removed as the Double Star & Mingren chairman and legal representative of the company in a board meeting in May last year where she was made the new chairman.
Xu alleged that her father-in-law “made his own company seals” after his dismissal by the board.
> China Press reported that Hong Kong veteran actor Eric Tsang has stepped down as TVB general manager after serving in the role for five years.
The 72-year-old made the announcement after receiving the honorary Legendary Achievement Award at the 2025 TVB Anniversary Awards in Macau last Sunday.
“Throughout these five years, what made me happiest was the support that I received from you all and that our programmes were liked by all.
“I feel my talent has run dry and it’s time to resign and allow the younger generation to take TVB to greater heights,” he said.
