SEREMBAN: Revenge is the likely motive behind a recent explosion involving an improvised explosive device at Desa Palma, Nilai, following initial police investigations.
Nilai district police chief Supt Johari Yahya said the 62-year-old man suspected of causing the explosion was said to have made the explosive device out of resentment towards his ex-girlfriend, who left him five years ago.
He added that the man had often talked to a neighbour about his disappointment with his ex-girlfriend, which only reinforced his confession.
“However, interrogation is still continuing but is quite limited given the suspect’s health condition, which does not allow it, and he is still being treated.
“So far, 24 witnesses have recorded their statements,” he said in a statement, Bernama reported yesterday.
Earlier yesterday, magistrate Sara Afiqah Zulkipli extended the remand order for the man at Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar for another seven days after the initial remand period ended yesterday.
Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad was previously reported to have said that the suspect in the explosion case that occurred on the morning of Dec 22 was arrested around Batang Benar, Nilai, at 4.15pm on Dec 27 with burn marks on his face, body, hands and feet.
The suspect is believed to have technical knowledge and specialised skills in making explosives, based on the discovery of devices and equipment seized from the man’s rental house.
