Cops nab nine suspects in Port Dickson armed brawl

SEREMBAN: Nine persons who are believed to have been involved in an armed gang fight in Lukut, Port Dickson, last week, have been arrested.

Negri Sembilan police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the suspects, aged between 20 and 40, were nabbed around Port Dickson, with the first arrest coming within 24 hours after the Saturday incident.

“We are still hunting for another suspect and if arrested, we believe all individuals involved would be in custody.

“Some of those arrested have previous criminal records. The exact motive for the incident is still under investigation,” he told reporters after launching the Negri Sembilan Internal Security and Public Order Department Disaster Response Team yesterday, Bernama reported.

He said all four victims, including a child who was injured, were receiving treatment in hospital and are reported to be stable.

In another development, DCP Alzafny said police are still investigating the exact motive for the explosion with the use of an improvised explosive device in Desa Palma, Nilai, on Dec 22.

He said the 62-year-old male suspect, previously treated in Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar’s Red Zone, has been moved to a different ward.

“Our interrogation team is there constantly to obtain his statement,” he said.

DCP Alzafny said the bomb disposal unit had confirmed that the explosion was caused by an error in handling explosives and that the suspect is believed to have acted alone.

The suspect was arrested in Batang Benar, Nilai, with burns to his face, body, hands and feet, and is under remand until Jan 3.
