A FAKE holy man in India was beaten up by pilgrims after he was heard talking badly about women and threatening children, Makkal Osai reported.

Millions of Hindu devotees worldwide visit Tiruvannamalai every year to perform the Girivalam pilgrimage.

But devotees and visitors have complained that the 14km route, which houses eight important Sivalingams, is seeing more fake holy men causing disturbances.

One such holy man apparently spoke disparagingly of female devotees passing by, and even threatened some children.

Residents and devotees chased the man and beat him with sticks and their bare hands.

> The 8th Annual Tamil Writers and Readers Conference was held at the National Library hall on Sunday, Makkal Osai reported.

The event was hosted by the Selangor-KL Tamil Readers & Writers Association led by president N. Mathialagan.

The annual event is held to promote writing and reading among the Tamil Indian community.
