Pahang fully recovers from floods


KUANTAN: Pahang has fully recovered from the floods after all 79 victims from 27 families placed in relief centres in the state were allowed to return home on Wednesday (Dec 24).

According to the state disaster management committee, the relief centres at Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Semangat, Kuantan, and Balai Raya Kampung Baru Pertanian, Maran, which had been in operation since last Wednesday, were closed at 2pm and 1.30pm respectively.

Meanwhile, the centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pulau Manis, Pekan, which had been operating since last Thursday, was closed at 9am on Wednesday.

The infobanjir website reported that as of 4pm Wednesday, the water levels of Sungai Pahang at Paloh Hinai, Pekan, and Sungai Keratong at Kampung Rekoh, Rompin, had exceeded the danger level.

Several districts in Pahang were hit by floods last week due to continuous heavy rain, resulting in more than 13,000 victims being evacuated to relief centres. – Bernama
