Preschool curriculum in 2026 to focus on reading practices, says Education Minister


CYBERJAYA: The Preschool Curriculum 2026 will place stronger emphasis on shared reading between parents and children to boost early literacy, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

Speaking at Malam Kota Buku 2025 here on Friday (Dec 19), she said the initiative includes the creation of dedicated reading spaces in preschools to encourage parental involvement through reading activities.

Fadhlina said the initiative has received full support from Perbadanan Kota Buku and strategic partners to ensure effective implementation at the preschool level.

She said the practice of reading physical books remains important and must continue to be reinforced through initiatives such as Nilam, or Nadi Ilmu Amalan Membaca, which will be strengthened next year.

Malam Kota Buku 2025 highlighted PKB’s role as an agency under the Education Ministry in developing infrastructure and implementing structured reading programmes.
