Malaysians triumph at AI-based teaching design comp

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s delegation under the Polytechnic and Community College Education Department made a splash at The First Industry-Education Integration AI-Enabled Teaching Design Competition, bringing home 11 awards.

The department said in a statement that the delegation secured six gold awards, four silver awards and one bronze award at the competition, which was held in conjunction with the Belt & Road and BRICS Competition of Skills Development and Technology Innovation.

The competition, held at the Gaoming Campus of Guangdong Vocational and Technical College in China, drew 360 participants representing 180 teams from countries including China, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia.

It focused on innovative AI-based teaching design, guided by the vision of integrating AI technology into Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) syllabus, as well as producing highly skilled talent capable of thriving in the global digital economy.

“The department’s involvement and excellent achievements in this competition reflect the seriousness of the department and the Higher Education Ministry in driving AI-based TVET, strengthening international cooperation and increasing the visibility of Malaysian TVET at the global level,” the statement said.

It also said that the Global South AI Cooperation Organisation was officially launched during the event’s closing ceremony.

“A total of 30 founding institutions from five countries were awarded membership certificates, marking the beginning of the Global South strategic collaboration platform in AI and TVET.”

The initiative has also received strong support from Vietnam and Indonesia, which view it as an important platform for the internationalisation of TVET, the development of common skills standards, and the mobility of lecturers and students.

An international roundtable meeting themed “Internationalisation of Vocational Education and Application of AI Technology” was also held to discuss cooperation plans for 2026, as well as the development of AI teaching standards, the establishment of international training centres and the implementation of school-industry partnership projects.
