New political secretaries urged to promote Sabah state policies, programmes

KOTA KINABALU: Newly appointed political secretaries are asked to disseminate information on state policies and programmes while refraining from abusing their positions for personal agendas.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said most people he met before the Nov 29 state polls were unaware of government initiatives and assistance.

“I was surprised that many from the Chinese community did not know what the State Government has done despite the many assistance that we have given out to the Chinese community schools and non-Muslim religious bodies.

“The (GRS-led) State Government had allocated so much to the tune of more than RM1.3 billion for education and human capital development,” Hajiji said.

He said this at the swearing-in ceremony of 18 political secretaries at Menara Kinabalu near here on Thursday (Dec 18).

“I want political secretaries to carry out the duties entrusted to them to the best of their ability and assist their respective minister and the government,” said Hajiji, warning that action would be taken against those found betraying the trust given to them.

The Chief Minister said the State Government was also considering requests from the opposition

Members of the State Legislative Assembly for assistance in the form of office management

allocations.

“As a fair government, we will consider this, subject to the discretion of the Finance Minister,” Hajiji said.
