Civil servant denies raping stepdaughter

SEREMBAN: A 45-year-old father of two claimed trial in the Sessions Court here to two charges of raping his stepdaughter.

The civil servant pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him before judge Surita Budin.

He was charged with committing the offences around 2am on April 15, 2022 and 3am on Aug 1 in the same year at a government quarters unit in Port Dickson.

The accused was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Balkis Zunaidi asked the court to impose similar conditions on the accused who is already facing incest charges against the same victim.

This includes ordering him to stay away from the victim, to report to the nearest police station monthly until his case is disposed of, and to surrender his passport to the court.

The prosecution, she said, was also agreeable that the accused be allowed to be released on a RM9,000 bail, which was imposed for the incest charges.

Yesterday, the court fixed May 18 to 22 for trial.

In February, the accused was slapped with two counts of committing incest against the same victim.

In the same court, a 31-year-old mother pleaded guilty to abusing her 11-year-old daughter.

She was charged with abusing her daughter at a flat in Jalan Manickavasagam here at about 5.30am on Oct 29.

The charge under Section 31(1) of the Child Act carries a jail term of up to 20 years, a fine not exceeding RM50,000, or both, upon conviction.

Lawyer Hanis Anisah Jamiludin from the Legal Aid Department sought time to prepare the mitigating factors before the sentence is passed.
