Promoting farming to youths

ENCOURAGING Indian youths to take up farming, particularly grain-based agriculture, will be a key agenda item at an upcoming international farming conference here, Makkal Osai reported.

The International Tamil Trade Convention, to be held at Midlands Hall in Shah Alam from Dec 22 to 24, is expected to attract 2,000 participants from 12 countries.

Tamil Trade Association chairman PN Balakrishnan Batumalai said the organisation has been hosting local farming and trade events over the past four years.

This year, they decided to create more opportunities for local Tamil entrepreneurs.

The association also hopes to boost the involvement of Tamil youths in agriculture, with this year’s convention placing special focus on grain farming.

Interested youths will also receive training from the association, he added.
