DOZENS of abandoned fish ponds in Bagan Serai, Perak, over the past seven years have turned into “mini-forests”, threatening residents’ safety, Utusan Malaysia reported.
Mat Radzi Ali, 71, said the ponds have been left abandoned since 2018.
He said residents are living in fear as the ponds have become a nesting place for wild animals.
Mat Radzi also has to incur extra costs to clean the area around his house.
“This year, we called the Civil Defence Force five or six times because pythons entered people’s homes.
“We have also been calling the authorities for over a year now to take action against the owner of the ponds, but to date, there is no action,” he said.
> The daily also reported that a woman from Felda Sungai Tekam Getah, Pahang, who was active in various community activities, has been left bedridden following a stroke.
Rozita Abd Ghani, 60, collapsed while cleaning her house in August last year before being taken to hospital.
She can no longer swallow normally and depends on a feeding tube.
Her husband, Abdul Halim Abdul Hamid, 65, said that Rozita also needs a phlegm suction machine to help her breathe.
“If the phlegm is not suctioned immediately, she could suffocate. I have to monitor her throughout the day,” he said.
> Having only one finger on his right hand has not prevented a young man from joining the automotive field through the Technical and Vocational Education Training programme in Kelantan, Kosmo! reported.
Ahmad Ezzad Syukran Sukimi, 20, lost four of his fingers when he was three years old due to a firecracker explosion.
The Kota Baru native feels his physical shortcomings are not a major obstacle in pursuing the automotive world.
“I want to prove that people with disabilities are able to succeed. I am not ashamed of my condition,” he said.
