FOURTEEN people in a Sri Lankan village escaped being buried alive in a landslide, thanks to a pet dog’s instincts, Makkal Osai reported.

On Nov 28, Kutty was heard whining and howling while pawing the kitchen door from outside.

The family thought Kutty wanted to come inside as it was cold.

But once they opened the back door, the canine ran through the house and out the front door.

The family heard the noise of rocks falling and fled their house while shouting at neighbours to follow them.

Retired forestry officer TM Thennakon said the village in Maspanna had been experiencing downpours since September, which intensified in November.

Thennakon said they were grateful to Kutty for saving their lives.
