AGC orders Bukit Aman to expedite investigation into inmate’s death

KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has directed Bukit Aman to complete an investigation report into the death of prison inmate M. Manisegaran, who allegedly died under suspicious circumstances.

In a statement on the AGC’s official page, it emphasised that Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Unit on Deaths in Custody (USJKT) must immediately finalise the investigation report.

"This is to enable the case to be referred to the Coroner’s Court to determine the cause and manner of his death. The full investigation report is expected to be referred to the chambers soon," the statement said on Saturday (Dec 6).

The AGC was responding to a recent report by an online portal in which Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo called on the AGC to clarify allegations that authorities failed to investigate Manisegaran’s death nine months after the incident.

The AGC stated it is committed to ensuring that every custodial death case is handled transparently, comprehensively and in accordance with the law.

Manisegaran, a 41-year-old lorry driver, allegedly died under suspicious circumstances after being detained at the Bandar Sunway police station in Petaling Jaya earlier this year.
