"The Madani government believes that the Rights and Privileges Committee will conduct this inquiry with full responsibility, independence and integrity, in line with the role entrusted to it by the Dewan.

"The government also remains committed to preserving the authority of Parliament as the country's highest institution, while ensuring that emerging issues are dealt with based on the framework of parliamentary democracy," she said in a statement on Friday (Dec 5).

Takiyuddin, who is Kota Bharu MP, had allegedly made a remark linking the MMEA exercise in Marang to the 1985 Memali incident.

A motion was tabled by Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah to suspend the PAS secretary-general, but it was withheld.
