22,881 postal ballots issued to eligible voters

KOTA KINABALU: The Election Commission (EC) has issued a total of 22,881 postal ballots to eligible voters for all the 73 state constituencies in Sabah, says its secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus.

He said 21,362 ballots were issued under Category 1A for election workers, EC members and officers, police, armed forces personnel and the media.

Another 336 ballots were under Category 1B for Malaysian citizens residing abroad, and 1,183 ballots under Category 1C for agencies and organisations, he said in a statement.

The issuance of postal ballots was carried out on Nov 17-18 in the presence of postal voting agents representing contesting parties or individuals, he added.

The issuance of the ballots is provided for under Regulation 3 of the Election Regulations (Postal Voting) 2003 for the 17th Sabah State Legislative Assembly Election.

Khairul Shahril reminded all postal voters to mark their ballot paper, complete the Declaration of Identity Form (Form 2) correctly, and promptly return it to the respective Returning Officer before 5pm on Polling Day on Nov 29.
