Police believe infant abandoned in Sungai Dua born elsewhere


BUTTERWORTH The newborn baby girl abandoned in front of a toilet at a village house in Sungai Dua on Thursday is believed to have been born elsewhere. 

Penang police chief Comm Datuk Azizee Ismail, said that based on investigations and inspection of the scene, no evidence was found to suggest the baby was born in the toilet or the surrounding area.

"Investigations are still in progress, including tracking down the baby's mother. We believe the infant was born elsewhere before being abandoned at the scene.

"We urge anyone with information to come forward and relay it to the police," he said when contacted by Bernama on Saturday (Nov 15).

Previously, the media reported that the infant, who was still attached to the umbilical cord, was discovered by a member of the public.

The baby was then taken to Seberang Jaya Hospital, where she was confirmed to be in a normal and healthy condition before being handed over to the Social Welfare Department. - Bernama
