KOTA KINABALU: Local-born Kevin Lee Sip Kim, son of Kudat’s first assemblyman, is getting strong support from local leaders here in his bid to wrest back Tanjong Kapor for Barisan Nasional.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong met Lee and also local Umno leaders who came to root for the candidate.

“We met with all 15 polling district centre chiefs. It was encouraging to see them all here, showing the close and strong spirit that has always defined Barisan Nasional,” he said in a Facebook post.

Kevin’s father, Lee On Yin, was the nominated assemblyman for Kudat from 1963 to 1967.

During a dinner with party members and voters in Kudat, Dr Wee highlighted Lee’s dedication to the community, noting that he had “never followed the frogs” and refused to switch political camps despite pressure.

“He has consistently served schools, churches and local community groups. His loyalty to MCA, even when faced with pressure, shows his integrity and commitment to the people of Kudat,” Dr Wee said.

He added that Kudat needs a determined representative to improve infrastructure, strengthen the local economy and retain young talent in the district.

“Barisan Nasional in Sabah also has strong plans for Kudat, including developing a deep-water port and building a new international airport to make Sabah a regional economic hub.”

Dr Wee called on community leaders and voters to support Lee.

He noted that Barisan campaign workers had reviewed strategies and action plans, and were determined to reach out to voters and communicate the coalition’s multiracial approach.

“Let’s back Kevin Lee so he can transform Tanjong Kapor and work for the people, represent Tanjong Kapor and advance development in the district,” he said.

Also present were MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon, deputy secretary-general Datuk Dr Pamela Yong, deputy treasurer-general Datuk Adrian Lee Yin Chung, central committee member Tan Gim Tuan as well as Kudat business and community leaders.
