SEPANG: Only four major glitches were recorded involving the aerotrain since it resumed operations at KL International Airport (KLIA) on July 1, says Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).
MAHB managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani said the four incidents, which involved various technical disruptions that halted the aerotrain operations, occurred once in July and September as well as twice in October.
He was addressing the 19 operational issues involving the aerotrain at KLIA between July 2 and Sept 30, as reported by Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah in the Dewan Rakyat on Oct 13.
“In the system that we have, we have an obligation to report all incidents, minor or major, to the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD). The four incidents, as mentioned, are the ones that really need to be addressed immediately.
“So the four incidents are the ones that I would say that caused the trains to halt operations. But the rest are minor glitches, sometimes just systems error where we need to recalibrate that sort of minor issues,” he said during a special media briefing by the MAHB at Sama-Sama Hotel here, Friday (Nov 14).

Mohd Izani also affirmed MAHB’s commitment to strengthen the reliability of the aerotrain system, adding that the Comprehensive Action Plan (CAP) is developed to resolve identifed issues ahead of the Visit Malaysia Year.
He said that the CAP will address technical problems occurred since the aerotrain system resumed operations in July.
“We are mindful of Visit Malaysia Year. Even though there were reported incidents, passenger flow has remained smooth and no one has missed their flights according to our records,” he added.
Since resuming operations on July 1, the aerotrain system at KLIA has served about seven million passengers and completed over 53,000 return trips, recording an Operational Service Availability (OSA) of 98.41%.
Under the CAP, aerotrain services will be suspended daily from 9pm to 7am starting Saturday (Nov 15) till Dec 15 to allow for in-depth inspections, system testing and trial operations.
Throughout the CAP period, full bus services will be deployed to ensure uninterrupted connectivity between the main terminal and the satellite buildings while more flight departures and arrivals will take place at the main terminal building to reduce the need for transfers.
