SEREMBAN: A 41-year-old assistant officer with a government-linked company has claimed trial to four charges of failing to report an individual who gave her bribes totalling RM5,150.
Nurul Syafinaz Yusof pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to her before Sessions judge N. Kanageswari on Wednesday (Nov 12).
She was accused of accepting the bribes for programmes which were never held.
Nurul Syafinaz allegedly committed the offences at a bank in Bahau between Aug 20, 2018 and June 4, 2019.
She was charged under Section 25(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, punishable under Section 25(2)
Under the provision, it is an offence for anyone not to report being given, promised, or offered any form of gratification.
Offenders can be fined up to RM100,000, jailed for up to 10 years, or both upon conviction.
MACC deputy public prosecutor Rais Adha Ramli told the court the prosecution was offering the accused bail of RM10,000 for all charges pending next mention.
He also asked the court to order the accused to report to the nearest MACC office once a month pending disposal of the case, and to surrender her passport if she has one.
The accused's lawyer, Johan Radzi, pleaded for a lower amount as the accused only earned RM2,300 a month and has to provide for her four young children.
Johan said the accused did not have a criminal record and was prepared to comply with the other conditions set by the prosecution.
Judge Kanageswari then set bail at RM8,000 with one surety and allowed the other applications by the prosecution.
The court fixed Dec 12 for next mention.
