MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for multiple states until 5pm


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states and territories, with warnings in effect until 5pm on Monday (Nov 10).

In Perlis, residents are advised to be prepared for severe weather. In Kedah, areas including Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Pendang, Sik, and Baling are expected to experience thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds.

In Perak, districts such as Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Hilir Perak, and Batang Padang are forecast to be affected.

In Terengganu, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu, and Marang are expected to experience adverse conditions.

For Pahang, the Cameron Highlands are under the warning.

In Selangor, Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor are included in the alert.

Meanwhile, in Negeri Sembilan, Jempol and Tampin are on alert for severe weather.

Melaka is also expected to experience adverse conditions.

In Johor, regions such as Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, and Kulai are forecast to face thunderstorms and heavy rain.

In Sarawak, the warning covers Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit (Song and Kapit), Bintulu, Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri, and Marudi), and Limbang.

In Sabah, the West Coast districts of Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, and Kota Belud are forecast to experience adverse conditions.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour. These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
