Man with learning disability dies in Rembau house fire

SEREMBAN: A man with a learning disability was killed when his family’s semi-permanent house was destroyed in a fire at Kampung Seberang Batu Hampar, Rembau, near here, on Sunday (Nov 9) night.

Rembau Fire and Rescue Station chief Assistant Fire Superintendent Muhamad Khairul Yahaya said the department received a call about the incident involving the 25-year-old victim at 10.57pm.

"Only the victim and his 59-year-old father were at home during the incident. The father said he was asleep when he was awakened by several small explosions and saw flames coming from his son’s room.

"He managed to get out of the house as the fire spread quickly, but suffered minor burns to his head. The cause of the blaze and the estimated losses are still being investigated," he told Bernama on Monday (Nov 10).

Muhamad Khairul said the victim’s remains were handed over to the police for further action. - Bernama
