Kelantan cops seize 1.4 tonnes of ketum leaves in van parked at construction site


KOTA BARU: Police seized 1.4 tonnes of ketum leaves hidden in a van at a construction site near Jalan Baru Kampung Chedok, Bukit Bunga, in Tanah Merah on Sunday (Nov 9).

Tanah Merah OCPD Supt Mohd Haki Hasbullah said the 8pm seizure was carried out by a team from the Bukit Bunga police station based on a public tip-off.

"Police found a suspicious white van in the area. An inspection revealed several black plastic packages inside the vehicle suspected to contain ketum leaves," he said in a statement on Monday (Nov 10).

Further examination revealed a large number of black plastic packages filled with ketum leaves weighing 1,400kg in total.

According to Supt Haki, the vehicle and all the confiscated items were taken to the Tanah Merah police headquarters.

Police are currently tracing the owner of the items. — Bernama
