Terengganu students win big at Beijing global tech summit

JERTIH: Eight students from  Terengganu won three medals at a global technology summit in China, including for an invention that can detect potential bullying incidents.

The students from Sekolah Menengah Imtiaz Yayasan Terengganu Besut won one titanium and two gold medals at the International Innovative Technology Summit 2025 in Beijing, China last month.

School principal Termezi Jusoh said the victory was achieved by three teams of Form Four students through their inventive products and applications, which impressed the international judging panel last month.

“All the students showcased exceptional creativity and innovation through their projects, namely Ingat (Immediate, Notification, Generated, Automatically and Triggered), Bedlog and I-Tasheel,” he told Bernama here yesterday.

He said Ingat, which won the titanium medal, was developed to prevent cases of babies being accidentally left behind in vehicles.

“The system uses sensors installed beneath car seats to detect the presence of a baby or child. If one is detected, a notification will immediately be sent to the driver’s mobile phone.”

Termezi said the Bedlog application, which won a gold medal, was designed to help schools or wardens monitor students who stay up late in dormitories and detect potential bullying incidents.

“The sensor device is placed under the bed to monitor movement through body weight and temperature. If unusual activity or an empty bed is detected, the system sends an alert to the warden’s phone,” he explained.

The second gold medal went to I-Tasheel, an educational innovation that enhances Arabic language learning through visual and interactive methods.

“Learning materials from textbooks are transformed into graphics, videos and game-based Q&A sessions. The system is already in use at our school and another religious secondary school in the Klang Valley,” Termezi said.
