KUALA LUMPUR: Various initiatives are being rolled out to strengthen Malaysian families, including programmes that teach fathers to lead with empathy and encourage parents to reduce screen time at home.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said that recognising fathers play an equally important role in family wellbeing, the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) has developed a Fatherhood Module aimed at young dads.
"The module focuses on improving awareness, knowledge and leadership skills through psychosocial approaches, family values and inclusive, modern parenting techniques," she said during her winding up speech of the Supply Bill (Budget) 2026 for her ministry in Parliament today (Oct 3).
LPPKN has also rolled out the Kasih Digital Parenting Programme, designed to equip parents with the tools and knowledge needed to manage the challenges of raising children in an era dominated by screens and social media.
"So far, more than 1,100 participants have benefited from the programme," she said, adding that digital pressures have become one of the biggest contributors to stress for modern families.
To encourage stronger family bonds, her ministry is championing the "No Gadget Hour" campaign, which urges families to spend quality time together without digital distractions.
"These initiatives reflect our continued commitment to strengthen the institution of marriage and the family in Malaysia," she said, adding that such efforts are key to fostering a "prosperous, harmonious and resilient" society.
The programmes form part of the Agenda Nasional Kasih Keluarga Negara under the 13th Malaysia Plan, which prioritises family values, stronger relationships and balanced roles among family members to ensure social stability from within the home.
