Education Ministry to introduce integrated student character development initiative in 2026

GEORGE TOWN: The Education Ministry plans to implement a student character development programme integrated within existing subjects in 2026.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the initiative does not involve introducing a new subject.

She said teachers would allocate some time during lessons to strengthen students' moral values and character through practical application.

"This is very important in shaping the character of our children. I hope space will be given to teachers and students to go through this new curriculum journey starting next year," she told reporters after officiating the “Wacana Fikrah Siddiq Fadzil Seminar: Karamah Insaniyah - Pencetus Negara Bangsa” discourse here on Sunday (Nov 2).

Fadhlina said the initiative would first be implemented for preschool students next year before being expanded to Year One pupils and subsequently to higher levels.

She also stated that special training and support would be provided to teachers to ensure the effective implementation of the new curriculum, while encouraging parents to support their children in adapting to the new approach. – Bernama
